Big Plans For March

So we are ending our February and coming into what could be our biggest event since our Kickstarter campaign. We are on a schedule of releasing our playable demo by the third week of March. We want to give you guys a little insight of what the demo will contain and how things have changed since our campaign up until now.

Demo News

The demo will be about an hour long depending on how you play it. It will be more or less an intro into the actual story and feature our main character. When we release the demo we are really going to be looking for some strong feedback, everything will be upgraded and we feel we can not make a great experience without your input. Our goal is to make a really great game, we want the game to do well commercially and critically.

Voice work

We have had some issues with the voice work for some of the characters in the demo. Most of that was due to some of the voices we rushed and acquired shortly before its release. Now we are going with our core and strongest group of voice actors for the next showcase. That would include Jalen K. Cassell, the voice of JagenCecilia Yus, who will voice Mioni and hopefully Amira, Echo Viridian as Sinara, and our newly acquired voice actress Danielle Mcrae who will be the new voice of Sen.

Sprite Work

We are wrapping up this month with a lot of great news and content. I have been working on Jagen again and I have been making his sprite look more like the image that Ricky has drawn. I have added more detail to his armor and upgraded his gauntlet to look more like Ricky’s detailed work.

Using this design I have been implementing it into Jagen’s combo animations and I really like how they look opposed to what they were before. This new version will be featured in the demo, so he will definitely have to look the best he can look.

I have also been working on some animations dealing with the character sprites such as climbing, jumping, bending down, and stance. Here is a small example of Sen’s in game map sprite.

Sen’s stance animation

We have enlisted some more on on tile sets over the past couple of weeks and the production has been fantastic! We have had some really talented people come along and the work they have produced along with our contracted spriter is amazing you are really going to enjoy what we have to offer as far as landscapes go.

Music

I firmly believe that we should have one of the best soundtracks for an indie game  this year. Mark continues to impress with his remakes of our older tracks. Jagen’s new battle theme may be one of the the best tracks he’s made so far. I personally think Jagen has all of the best music associated with him. I can not wait to hear you guys’ opinions on it.

“Sundering Volante”

The Full Game

We have plans to release the game in the near two to three months. That being said, I want to clarify what this game will feature and what may be left out as far as the first chapter goes. As you all should know, this game is going to be chapter 1 of a full length RPG experience. We aim to make the chapters at least between 14 and 17 hours. We have 3 playable characters, 8 areas in 4 locations, and a few secret ones too, all in the first chapter.

What we may or may not be leaving out is an additional playable character and 3 more areas which would just take a little bit more time but could be added to the next chapter. We shall find out what we could do with that by the end of March.

Let us know how you feel about this as we want you all to feel like you are getting your pledge’s worth. We want everyone to feel satisfied with our game and their pledge so if you have any concerns at all please feel free to let us know! We are always willing to talk about it and we will respond promptly.

In Game Backer Rewards

We are currently in the process of getting the in game backer rewards for you guys and we would like to get the information for your boss or NPC if you have not yet given it to us yet. We will be contacting you throughout the month if we have not already done so. By the end of the month of March, everyone with the NPC or boss reward will be given a map of the main location. You will be able to choose a spot for your NPC to live. Some locations are not available in the first chapter so you will have the option to choose one of those locations to live as well if you are comfortable with waiting for your character to be put in the game.

Thanks everyone for your support and we hope to impress you with our demo/beta in a few weeks.

PS – Today was my birthday,  just to throw that out there. I could not have had a better time spending it working on the game with my wife. 🙂

Slow, slow two weeks

Hey everyone, we’re back! Hope you all enjoyed the holidays! These passed 2 weeks have been very slow for us. We had to deal with family, kids, and business, which is usually not that hard, but this year it was hard to keep ourselves away from business which kind of screwed with our focus and really made things crawl along. That’s not to say that we have nothing to show!

We’ve been gaining ground on Iron Grid, which is the official name of the card minigame. Ricky returned to design the card templates and the game’s logo.

We’ve got platinum purple, gold, silver, and bronze ranks for the cards.

Here is the actual logo so you can get a close up of it. The theme of the game is sort of like an all out battle arena. Besides the basic DR cards, it will include crossover characters from other great indie games as well as characters from other games that we’ll be working on down the line!

Soon, we’ll know for sure whether we will be adding platforming to the game. I hope so, I think it will add a very dynamic and unique angle to our puzzles. We spoke about it in one of our streams and said if it wasn’t right then we wouldn’t add it. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Lately I’ve been working on some code, fixing compatibility issues as well as other things. I’m currently working on the equipment menu since that’s been broken for a while now. I broke it while trying to fix it a while ago 😀 Since I’ve been working on code, that means that I am still stuck in Annox Desert Village, so I’ll probably be getting back to that and finishing it once I finish that pesky equipment problem.

Tyrell is still working on battlers. He’s about to move on to updating Sinara’s battler so the styles and quality are kept up. It’s not much work to do upgrades, so it shouldn’t take long. He should have something to show you on her in the next update.

We have a delay in the battle system’s progress. It is going a little slower than we expected. Holidays called before he could finish, unfortunately. We are expecting it to be finished this month.

Mark also had a setback with the music due to personal problems, but he’s still working on it. He is getting music to us as fast as he can with great quality. He has informed me that he has a facebook page set up for his music. Demon’s Revenge isn’t the only thing he works on! Go on over and check it out at https://www.facebook.com/mmckeich and don’t forget to give it a like! He’s got some freebies up there too so download and enjoy!

So with all of that said, I’ll be ending this update. I know it was short and not much was shown for eye candy, but just know that more is coming your way!

Our 4th Kickstarter Pt. 22

We Made It!!!

Thanks to all of you fantastic people for funding our project. This has been a long time coming and we are ready to get to work on our game and bring you an amazing experience. There have been so many risks and sacrifices that we have taken in order to get this game to the state it is in and with your help it is going to be even better. It is going to have better animations, more music, more art and everything in between. This is truly a dream come true and we hope you all continue to join us in our development. Bringing our characters to life in this game to you all will be an honor.

For those of you who will still like to pledge through paypal we are giving you a limited time to still claim some of the lower tier rewards. So we will be placing a link to the paypal here for you to pledge on our website for those rewards. Later we will change it to simple donations, and a time after that we will want to sell T-shirts or possibly hoodies for those who are interested.

Backer Rewards

I have contacted our artist Ricky Gunawan and talked to him about the wallpapers and the other backer rewards such as the boss portraits and other things. If we have not already sent you a message requesting information on your NPC or boss character, we will do that soon. We look forward to working with you on your creative content and we will start on that stuff as soon as we get all of your information.

We will give more information on the steam greenlight entry soon, as we may have an alternate way of approaching that platform. We will give information on as soon as we can!

What now?

Our focus now is to get all our people together. We have already set goals. We are going to re-clarify everything and then everything is going to move quite rapidly. My focus will be on the battle system and animations if we want the impact that we are going for this is a main priority. So I will be analyzing what we have now adding some frames to animations. Adding the combo animations and perfecting some designs and motions. I will also be doing a template for the npcs this way we can have cloths made so that they can be layered on top of them to be interchanged and edited much easier. Jynx will be started. He requires a lot of effects so I will be doing his base sprites. Since a lot of him requires transformations, he will be very effect heavy.

Yin will correct any bugs we have seen so far and get the optimization going as soon as possible. That has been a problem for people with older computers. We need the battle system completed first in order to do that. We should get that done for the most part before the month is over.

Our Goals

Our goal for this project is to make this game a notable commodity in the gaming world. We have seen a lot of indie games reach such status in the gaming world like Shovel Knight, SuperMeatBoy and Braid among many more titles. We want to stand out in the RPG genre by being notable for story, exploration, presentation and having the best battle system. There are some really great 2D RPGs that are coming out, so that is going to be a challenge but one that we accept and want to be involved in. Games like You Are Not The Hero, Toby’s Island and Celestian Tales: Old North  are really high quality games that stand out in this genre. We all aim to excel as indies but bring that AAA dynamic that we have known these games could be in the past and present.

Thanks to everyone we most certainly could not get this far without you and in order to make a really dynamic and fun game we hope that you will all join us in the process.

Thank you so much you all are the best!

-Tyrell and Whitney White

Final Hours

We are in the last 48 hours of our campaign and I would like to go over what would be considered a 60 day campaign. We have had some ups and downs through this whole process and we have shown nothing but resilience and determination to get this game going and in a polished and professional state. We would like to thank you all especially the ones who have backed us since 2012. We continued to develop and you have been there for the entire journey. Thank you so much and we are going to deliver you all a product worthy of all your generosity.

Boss Design Contest

For those who do not know, we held a boss design contest for participants from just about everywhere we post our project. Our 1st place winner was Fred Green and he designed a very interesting character with a remarkable background. He is one of our backers and we are very proud to have this character in our game. You can find out more about her and other characters in our game by following the link in the picture.

We also designed thank you cards for just about everyone who participated in the contest. Although these are not the final designs we plan to add them into a fun and simple trading card game within our project. There are still some that I have to refine and finish, but this is a glimpse of what we have so far.

Cross Promotions

Through this time we also had the opportunity to cross promote with 2 other projects in a form that allowed cameos in game. Land of Eyas and Legena, both of which were completely funded just a couple of days ago. We found it to be a unique and fun opportunity and we plan to add them both to the card game.

Backer Created Content

I have had the opportunity to work with some backers on their in game rewards. I started with Steven on his NPC and so far he is coming out extremely well. I have some information on Fred’s NPC and boss and we should get to that soon. Even after the campaign is done, we can all still get together and discuss a lot of these ideas that surround this world and the fantastic politics and culture that exist within it. After all when you put your input into the characters, you are creating more depth and diversity in this world.

Streaming and progress

Towards the end of the campaign we streamed quite a bit. Mostly about our game and past projects. We talked about where the project is going and where it has come from. We talked about the games that inspired us and Whitney played a bit of Tomb Raider. We had fun and we learned things about our backers and they learned some stuff about us too. If you want to recap on what those things were, we uploaded the streams onto youtube for you to review.

Thanks to you all, but we are not yet done! We are very close to our goal with very little to go. With your help and your participation we can make a run to finish this campaign successfully. You have all been great and we could not ask for much better support than the support we are getting from you all, our backers. Let’s all share our project on all social media and let everyone know about our great game. If this is successful, we aim to bring you a very good RPG experience and some new and unexpected twist to a great gaming formula.

Thanks again,

Tyrell and Whitney White

Our 4th Kickstarter Pt. 19

Just a little over a week and we are nearing the 70% mark. I have been tweeting all morning and trying to get more press as the last few days go by. We are anticipating some really good exposure towards the end of the campaign to launch us into our final goal. We basically have $1,400 to go and we are really close to this.

Running 4 campaigns has not been a healthy thing for us mentally and physically. I believe it has prepared us for the long haul and has made our game a lot better, and with this campaign in particular it has given us a lot more fans and interaction. It is really fun talking to people who actively support you. We are hoping someday we can return the favor. It is really tough failing. You ask yourself is it worth it, will people enjoy what you are doing and when you get all the positive reception around the web, it just gives you more confidence to move forward.

This time we are at 70%!!! We’ve never been that close I am not set on heartbreak at this point this time. There are nothing but positives at this point and I am hoping you all will help us share our project and get some more pledges in this last leg of the campaign.

We are ready to really bring the game out in its true light and show you all the true potential of our project. We just need the funding because we already have the support from the most fantastic people in the world, the backers of this Kickstarter campaign. Some of you have been with us since 2012 and I am very grateful that you have been with us this entire time. I can not say enough about the support you all have given us. Thank you all very much!

-Tyrell and Whitney White

Thanks we are almost home!!!

Streaming at 8:30pm EST

I’m going to try and Stream again tonight. This time I am going to be doing a bit of spriting. I will be redesigning the white wolf and with you guys help, we can all determine his outcome. He uses an older slightly modified version of the regular wolves, so I will be separating him from that as well as making some new more defining modifications. You guys can look at Whitney and myself go through our creative process and see how we get our cool looking sprites the way they are. I hope to see you there.

Our 4th Kickstarter Pt. 18

We had some more fun on last night’s stream, playing some of our older projects from the very bad to the most recent. We plan to do somethings with my first RPG that I talked about in a previous update but when it comes down to it, it will be very different. The MUGEN work is all a hobby and stuff that we would get back to in our free time. It has excelled me to my current spriting style and skills and is a key reason our battle system looks the way it does. I was planning on spriting something that night for you guys, but we may do that another day.

Just another reminder that the Celebrity tier and anything above that will come with a physical copy of the full game. You can reserve yours now and get some exclusive physical rewards.

We are so close with just over a week to go, we have only $1,500 left to make our goal! We need all the support we can get! Just share our project with just about everyone you know and I’m sure we will make it. Time is indeed running out but with all your support, we have this in the bag!

Our 4th Kickstarter Pt. 16

We had another great time on the stream yesterday. I had Whitney play one of her games which influenced her to make games, Tomb Raider. We answered a bunch more questions about the game as well as talked about some of the things we want to do after the game is funded.

We have another interview coming soon and we just might Stream again later today.

Getting to know the people that support us.

I think we are most grateful for all of you individuals who are supporting us through kickstarter. We have had a real hard time getting our family involved, so having complete strangers give us their time and resources is truly amazing.

We do not want you all to be strangers, I think it would be great to truly know who you all are. Let us know who you are, your occupation, and what has brought you to our project. Let us know something interesting about yourselves and we would love to do the same.

I have been working in retail since I was 20. Before that I’d been doing general labor. I currently work at the Home Depot. I have many talents, being able to do art, sing, and play football for most of my life. My biggest dream and my career goals are to become a game developer and release our first game, Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge, in the first quarter of next year. I plan to support my family and let the world know how talented and creative my wife and I can be.

Thanks for everything,

-Tyrell and Whitney White

The campaign is winding down and there is still a lot of time left. We need your support! Continue to share, tweet and facebook our project with everyone you know. With 64% we can finally get our project funded on kickstarter with a little push.

So I am nearly done with Luth’s card although I have some more things I need to tighten up. I like his story and his output on the things that are happening in the world of Hasphal. He will be a great addition to our game and we would like to thank Steven Lee Potts for his participation in letting us design his NPC. If anyone else wants their npc designed who pledged for the noble tier, please let me know I will be more than happy to get it done for you.

We are going to start streaming our game for you guys. We are also thinking about streaming some games that have been inspirations for CT: DR. Games like Tomb Raider, Suikoden 2, and Final Fantasy 8. We would like to let you guys know how we have come up with our ideas for what we have now and give a bit more of a synopsis on what we plan for the future of our game. If you can not catch the streams we’ll be sure to upload it for you once we are able to.

Just 2 weeks left! I am very excited and very nervous about it. We have come this far and I would really hate to lose the progress that we had with this campaign. We are still doing all the things we need to do in order to move forward. The good thing is we have less than half of our goal to go.

Don’t forget to share our project on facebook and twitter.

Thank you everyone,

-Tyrell and Whitney White

Kerell
Kerell Eyes

Before Whitney and I decided to work together on Demon’s Revenge I was working on my own game called Erupt the Inferno. It was an RPG made from RPG Maker 2003, but had many iterations on older programs. It was absolutely poorly written the story was everywhere and the dialogue was terrible. As I had started to move further in the game, my skills with story telling and dialogue had gotten remarkably better. I’d even begun to work on some stories that I wrote when I was a kid, stories that were ironically way more interesting and well crafted.
Kerell Sprite
Kerell as he will appear in CT:Erupt the Inferno Kerell as he will appear in CT:Erupt the Inferno

In those stories came a character that I had created since I was old enough to draw. In some ways he represented me and my personal traits. Kerell is that character, and Whitney and I have combined our worlds to create a seamless universe of games that we plan to do in the future called the “Celestial Tear.”
kerell

Thoughts on Hasphal

I can not give away too much about his background, but I can say a bit about his views on the world of Hasphal. Kerell sees the conflict that is happening on Hasphal as one that he can not control. He has experienced enough of what people have done to each other and until he can find a solution, he has no reason to comment or critique peoples’ actions. Kerell resembles neither human nor jeht, so most people are confused of his race once he is around. He is generally a nice guy, but on first sight he can be very brooding and intimidating.
KerellBattleStats

Powers and abilities:

Kerell is very durable and able to withstand blows that would cripple even the strongest of jehts. He is a fairly skilled fighter but relies on his strength and durability to control a battle. He posses a seemingly mystical axe and is equipped with an unknown armor. Kerell’s rage amplifies his abilities and cause his eyes to glow and his body to heat up in a fiery aura.
Celestial Tear: Erupt the Inferno

Erupt the Inferno is a game that we plan to return to. Although it will not be a RPG, it will directly be effected by the events of Demon’s Revenge. We have decided to make this a fighting game. Having experience with the MUGEN engine, we feel that we can make a real strong 2d fighter that even the most hardcore would enjoy.

We have many great ideas and concepts that goes into this entire universe that we have created. Demon’s Revenge is our first step in bringing those ideas to life, and with all your help, you are truly making this a reality.

Thank you for everything you are doing for us we are definitely on our way!

Until next time, share our project on twitter and facebook. Like and share with anyone you know.

Thanks again,

– Tyrell and Whitney White

Yay, we finally launched our kickstarter! Ok, I know I’m a little late, but yesterday I was too excited to write anything and instead posted short blurbs about it everywhere, but today I’m still all over the place, but a little bit better. I posted about it in the newsletter and in the newsletter I also mentioned that we’ll be updating the demo soon to address some bugs and suggestions. (more…)
