Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge

Posts in the Game Lore category

Cave2
There is a place on Hasphal where humans and jehts live together. It is an underground city where both humans and jehts choose to co exist with each other. It is called New Falen. These people generally do not want to be a problem, they feel as though they serve as an example of what the rest of the world should be like.

Siluet
Siluet Enlarged

Many jehts and humans live in this underground sanctuary. Most have different backgrounds and views on the life that one would live in New Falen. The jeht known as Siluet has experienced peace in New Falen, being half human he has found such a place to be accepting of who he is or what he believes himself to be. He is a traveling musician who tries to stay upbeat and optimistic about his underground dwellings. To most, New Falen can be considered a paradise away from the prejudice and bigotry of the rest of the world.

Jynx
jynx
Living a life alone and wandering as a nomad, the trans demon known as Jynx trusts no one and serves no allegiance to either side. Longing to belong to a world that hates him, he tries to blend in with the humans. An attempt at a life that cost him his arm. Now uncertain of his path in life, he begins to regret his lineage and accepts the world as being lost in chaos. A place like New Falen can not fill the black heart of one that has been hurt as much as Jynx.

More News
GamingCypher
We still continue to get some news coverage and with more on the way, we hope to gain some more momentum and launch our campaign into the funded phase. This has been a long time coming and we feel we can really make a difference this time. We have nothing but great things being said about our project all over the net and we hope that brings us even more pledges.

Until next time, share our project on twitter and facebook. Thanks for all the support. We still have a long way to go. Even though we are almost 50% there, we still need all your help. Like and share with anyone you know, let’s make this game happen now!

Thanks so much,

save
Demon’s Revenge takes place in a sci-fi fantasy world, there is no doubt about it. Although the references to sci-fi are subtle now, later in the game many other things will be revealed. For now, let’s talk about the save points. By now many of you have noticed that the save points in Hasphal are a little… A lot out of place and people kind of just live their lives knowing that these things are there. They are harmless. In fact when people studied them, they noticed that they were rooted to the ground like a tree through its wires. Some people even claim to have seen them fall from the sky. When anything would get near it, it would open and glow a pulsing light drawing people nearer. It’s said that you can see your whole life flashing with each pulse of the light. These foreign machines helped people recover from amnesia and so they were a welcomed artifact to both jehts and humans.

Surely you’ve also ran into the spaceships scattered around the sacred forest.
Jagen makes a discovery under water.

Nobody knows how they got there, but they are running an investigation. Trying to figure out how to get the doors open so they can explore the vessel further and learn from this foreign object.

I’m sure the party knows how to get those doors open though…

September 2014 Kickstarter Update #18.

News, Menus, Porting, and More!
We have been featured in many news articles and blogs which ultimately gives us a lot of confidence going forward.
coverage
Most recently, we have been featured in the Koalition.

http://thekoalition.com/2014/09/kickstarter-weekly-band-saga-celestial-tear-demons-revenge-grimoire/

“Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge has a lot going for it. The story deals with themes pertinent to modern day, and the presentation looks like a SNESified comic book.”

We have also had another great let’s play by a really nice guy on youtube named Redbeard. He has a lot of really entertaining reaction videos especially the PT Silent Hill video, as well as some other gaming videos.

Menu Systems

So in this update we want to explain the menus in a little more detail.

Recently we have been getting a lot of Nintendo news about our game. Although we are going to release the game initially on the current engine for PC, we are converting the basics into Unity to port to the many other platforms that Unity provides.

Other news about the engine that we are currently using is that it is going to be able to port to mobile devices. We will keep you up to date with that also.

Forums

So the forum we mentioned is right here http://demonsrevenge.com/forum/ Feel free to join us in some random gaming conversations or just to chat about the game or even see some other projects that we have in mind. We will love to hear from you.

1 Week Left!

With just over a week to go we are still campaigning with lots of hope and passion. We really want this to happen and we will make our game a reality. Stay with us everyone, we are not giving up and we need all your support. I’m going to make a new reddit post, if you guys want to help with that let me know. Annox Desert
In this update, we talk about one of the larger cities in the game called Annox Desert. We go over its relationship to the rest of the world and a little about what can be done there.
Annox Sands Battle
Annox Desert is one of the 1st major cities you will be visiting in CT: Demon’s Revenge. In this busy human dominated city there is high trade and adventure. In the day time, there is a lot of activity as the people of Annox have very busy lives. While at night, a band of thieves rule the streets.

Classes are split between the wealthy and working people by a wall. While the higher class citizens live near the palace the lower class people live in the slums.
PalaceBack

The Annox Desert Palace is filled with guards and the wealth of a thriving economy. Prince Raj rules over Annox with his family, primarily focusing on the upper class citizens and ignoring the needs of the poor. This leads to a conflict between the guards and its less than regal citizens.

Mioni and Crafting
mioni-2
In Annox will be your first encounter with crafting. There is a very important character named Mioni. She is the daughter of the Annox Guard Lieutenant Falen. Because of that, she has had the privilege to experience and learn high levels of alchemy. Mioni is considered the world’s leader in the advancement in the science of alchemy. She becomes one of your allies and for a time you visit her to craft new items and learn new formulas.

Thanks again everyone, we still have more updates to come. We are always happy that you guys are reading our updates and we hope to talk to you all again soon.

Thank you,

Tyrell and Whitney White

Our Third Kickstarter Pt. 12

Who are the Ridders?

Ridders come from all over the world. Most of them volunteer to become ridders. These are usually young men and woman who look up to the ridders as being the protectors and saviors of the human race from demons. They usually come from the slums and use the ridder stature to honor their families.

There are some ridders who are hand picked from their particular part of the world. These humans usually posses gifts or talents that are particular to where they come from. These gifts could mean things as simple as natural strength, speed, or even the ability to channel the power of the sun into healing powers. They are usually held as the best of their kind and participate in tournaments to determine that right. These ridders are never drafted and usually accept joining as an honor. Most earn the rank of Elite Ridder and hold that position until they retire, when someone from their region can take their position.

Jagen
jagen
Jagen was raised by wealthy owners of an inn located in the town of Pekitzer. He lived a very privileged life and was exposed to some of the finer teachings in all of Hasphal. Jagen’s parents were so busy with the family business that they rarely had time for him. Because of that, Jagen indulged himself in education, religion, and training. He grew to embrace the intricacies of strategy and war and grew a passion for some of the more obscure and unpredictable weapons and fighting styles…..

In our demo, you learn very early on that a terrible tragedy fell upon Jagen. His wife was killed by a rampaging demon. Jagen does what most would want to do in such a situation, he joins the Ridders in order to eradicate the world of such atrocities. He does not want to kill all demons. He feels that not every demon is evil. In memory of his wife he wants to protect the people of Hasphal from the type of demons that took her from him.
Jagen Stance

Most of the ridders despise Jagen, having climbed the ranks of the ridders in such little time, they feel his vast resources and status in life has attributed to his position. Jagen is a very adept strategist and fighter which has earned him very high praise within the ridders organization. The feelings of his peers phase him very little, as he is more concerned with his cause.
Jagen Riding
Soon, Jagen finds out that his ideals vary greatly from the ridders agenda. Jagen eventually has to make a decision that will alter his life and perhaps change the way he looks at the world of Hasphal.

Amira
Amira Sitting
Amira has grown up looking at the ridders as role models. The ridders were the great warriors of Hasphal and she believed she could train herself to become one. In Amira’s life, she had never encountered a demon. She had always heard about the destruction they caused and why they were so terrible. She thought of them as beasts that needed to be slain by those who she deemed as heroes.
Amira Stance
Amira dedicated her life to becoming a ridder, training hard everyday to learn what she could from the locals in Martholin, a town located near the ridder headquarters. Amira would eventually register to become a ridder. Enthusiastic about her chances of become a ridder, time would pass and no word would arrive. She would wait and her doubt would grow. Something that she trained her life to do, her dream, everything that made her life worth living felt like it was wavering in the wind. News would soon arrive and her suspicions would soon prove true. She was denied.
Denied
Amira would grow bitter. Life had lost its luster. She felt as though she had no place in life. Amira would learn to resent the ridders for not understanding her destiny. She would learn to despise the Gaddok for not granting her what she prayed for. She would soon leave Martholin because the sight of the ridder headquarters sickened her. She vowed one day she would show them the greatest warrior they had ever denied… Or destroy them. Whatever comes first.

Thanks again for reading our updates.

Our Third Kickstarter Pt. 6

We’ll be going over all of our kickstarter updates.

September 2014 Kickstarter Update #8.

Well, we are feeling a lot better. We are still a little down from being sick but we are back with a great update. In this update we want to show you all some of the larger creatures that we have in the game. We also want to show some animations for those who did not get a chance to play the demo. For some there may be some confusion on what we are actually offering in our higher tiers and we want to clear that up as best as possible.

Enemies in our game are separated in tiers. You have your basic enemies, the normal ones you encounter frequently. The boss enemies, the ones you usually fight within a large event or dungeon. Than you have your epic enemies which can be easy or hard to find, but you should avoid them on first sight until you are powerful enough to defeat them. We want these enemies to be unique but we also want them to look practical and match the world.

Enemy types

Eastern Sands Dragon Roar
Here we have the Eastern Sands dragon he is rather large and tend to travel alone. He is pretty easy to defeat despite his size. He resides in the Eastern Sands of Annox Desert and may be pretty easy to avoid.

Hulyzer
Hulyzer is a boss character. You battle him in an undisclosed(spoiler) part of the game. His size does matter and he uses his environment to his advantage.

King Cobran
This is the King Cobran he is an epic boss. One of which can be easily seen on the Eastern Sands. Fight him at your own risk. You will more than likely die until you level up enough to defeat him.

Hornet King
For anyone who was unlucky enough to find this guy in the demo. You will know he was impossible to beat at the moment. We wanted to throw in this extra little thing so you will know that there will be challenges to overcome as well as rewards for exploration.

We want to let it be known that these types of boss characters will in no way make the game any easier. We have implemented a level system in which your encounters will present you with enemies of different levels. With this, they all have different attack levels and stats which will have the game at a steady level of difficulty. When we release the updated demo later in the campaign we hope to get some feedback on that.

Reward chart

To help with some of the confusion with the rewards, we made up this chart. The reason why we are just making this is because we really didn’t think we needed it. After looking at our rewards we were definitely wrong. In an effort to fix that problem we made one.

reward chart

Character Animations
We also want you guys to really understand what you would be getting with the higher tiers. We made a couple of gifs showing off some animations other than that one with Jagen fighting the wolves we hope you find them attractive. We pride ourselves in animations and if you do decide to get your own character or boss enemy made with us we want you to see the quality that it will be made in.

lohal
Jagen’s Lohal essence its a single target heal.

Boss Design Contest Second Winner Finally Announced!

So it was a tough decision on who we wanted to consider the second place winner for our boss design contest. We actually had three in mind. Since we had a hard time picking the last winner, we want to give them all prizes but we are broke so we are just going to make them cards. We could make all of our backers cards of your favorite characters if you would like as we reveal some of them in the future updates.

2nd winner here is Analiah Blackthorne by Mariah and Deanna. Congratulations to them!

Analiah
This is an early template of the card battle minigame we have in mind, and to give thanks to everyone that entered. I will be doing a card for your character. If anyone has questions on this do not be afraid to ask.

Contest Winner Prize
winner process
Here you will see the process of Ricky as he makes the boss contest winners poster. This is the same poster that we offer for some of our other pledge rewards. Ricky is a very skilled artist and takes anyone’s vision to new heights.

New Pledge Tier create a character

We have added a new tier for character creation. This will include your own character who you decide his/her standing on the issues within Hasphal. You work with the developers to create his or her powers, race, traits, voice work, and very own battle theme. You also receive a poster designed by our very own Ricky Gunawan. Not to mention all previous tier rewards.

Pledge Deals!

We want to give out some more early bird deals with some of the higher tier pledge rewards. We want our current backers to get there first so hopefully this message travels faster to you guys than to anyone who would see our project. If you like what you see in this update, chances are you also see the worth in those higher rewards.

Thanks for reading! We missed out on a couple days due to being sick and we really hope this update made up for it. Until next time here, is another cool project.

September 2014 Kickstarter Update #5.

Sinara’s cut scene
sinara

In this update I want to show an element of the game that we think is unique and sort of original. This is another example of the sprited cut-scenes, this one features Sinara one of our main antagonist.

“Sinara’s early life was full of pain and isolation. Sinara and her younger sister Miranda were orphans who grew up in an unnamed town; overworked and under fed. They spent each day longing for a chance at a real life and family. The days of work and hunger led Sinara to have deep disdain for society. Soon the town was ravaged by demons and that day of having a real family never came. Sinara and Miranda’s first encounter with demons wounded them. That day, they nearly lost the only thing they have ever truly possessed: their lives. They grew enraged by the mere mention of the word demon and vowed to find a way to rid the world of them.”

Sin Update
She is a ruthless character known for her merciless onslaught of demons as well as humans who get in her way. To learn more about Sinara you can click on her image.

Give me your feedback and let me know how you feel about the video.

Ask me anything on Reddit.

We had started another Reddit post. This time it really got off the ground with some great feedback. Join in and if you have any questions, anything at all please do not be afraid to ask. We are open and ready to answer all the questions you may have, here or on Reddit.

Developers Pick:

We are still debating on our pick for the contest. The entries were so inspiring we kind of feel like giving out more prizes but we have to keep everything within budget, so we are still talking about it.
Campaign status:

We have reached a pretty cool milestone with having raised $1,008 funding so far. We are very excited about that. This means a lot to us and we will keep pushing hard to get our game made.

Everyone is telling us how great of a project we have. This is our third time on this platform and we know we have what it takes to make a great game. Just stick with us, learn about our process our dedication and spread that word far and wide because we are never giving up.

I talk about my game to just about everyone I feel is going to be interested, and this is something that I have to accomplish in life.

I’m never giving up no matter how hard it may seem!

Thanks for believing and supporting us we will continue to move forward with the kickstarter campaign.

With your support we all can help bring this game to life and be a part of it. If we all just brought in one more backer we could have at least 120 backers. That could make all the difference.

I’m fighting through all 4 quarters of this campaign and I am ready to tackle week two. Enjoy the update.

2012 Kickstarter Update #14. This is when it was just Tyrell, me and Ricky.

Michael stepped down as composer. We brought on Mark (Quigon).

We were preparing for our 2014 Kickstarter in this update.

We have a few updates that we’ve already shared on our website, along with some smaller updates that we posted around the net. Here it goes!
UPDATE:

Battle Backgrounds:

For those who played our previous demo you may have noticed that we used sprited backgrounds. With the help of our artist Ricky we were able to upgrade them to a more painted look. It makes things more dynamic and the scale of it allows us to do different things with the battle system.

new backgrounds

One of the more dynamic things that we plan to do with the battle system is using it to zoom in and out and pan depending on what is happening in the fight. Our new battle backgrounds are layered and built for animation so that is exciting for us. This is a new, but similar system to what we had used in our previous build on the older engine. It is a battle system that is being built from the ground up. Action is as big a thing in and out of battle but I would love to show it before I say too much about it and let the system speak for itself as it is nearly complete.

rough

With that there are some minor updates and palette changes to some of the battlers and animations. I have redone Jagen’s colors and sprites so that it would match with the backgrounds much better. The wolves from the demo have also received a much needed upgrade. We have also added some more monsters in the area to give it more diversity. Most of the enemies from Jagen’s intro would be more forest like creature. While the next part would be consisting of more humans ones.

new ridder

new wolf

We hope to show off some of these features soon. And let people know how hard we have been working on this. I say this a lot, but we would love to do more updates and if time permits I will definitely try.

A Closer Look At Sinara:
sin eyes
Sinara’s early life was full of pain and isolation. They grew enraged by the mere mention of the word demon and vowed to find a way to rid the world of them.

When they were of age, they joined the ridders. Miranda took a more internal role, while Sinara worked more on the field of battle. Both were Max’s best recruits, but Sinara was his prize possession and once he saw the potential in her skill, he honed them to reach a status beyond measure.

Max gave Sinara a pet demon, Liz. Despite Sinara’s hate for demons, Liz and Sinara manage to become partners in crime. Liz would sacrifice anything for Sinara and Sinara would let her.

liz and sin

Liz is Sinara’s partner. As much as Sinara hates demons, she keeps one as her right hand. Liz was discovered by Maximillion and given to Sinara as a pet. She has grown to love Liz and Liz feels the same. Liz has no remorse for the damage that she does to her fellow demons. Her hate for her own kind could only be explained by the teachings that Sinara has embedded in her mind, having been the only person she has truly gotten to know.

Sinara is known as being sadistic and evil. She kills without remorse and has a short temper. She tolerates humans a bit more, but their lives seem to mean as little to her as demons do. Sinara’s fighting prowess has earned her a reputation of being both deadly and overly confident. This makes her extremely intimidating because she is known more as a legend than as an actual person.

Skills and Abilities

Under Max’s tutelage, Sinara has become one of the most feared warriors of the demon ridders. She has learned to use many weapons and has learned to use and make poisons. Sinara is an excellent marksmen and her weapons of choice are two chakram which she uses in both ranged and melee combat. Sinara has also been shown to possess demon like attributes and abilities. Such as enhanced speed, strength, and endurance. This is due to her voluntary experimental procedures that she undergoes which injects a chemical found in demons. That chemical gives her the ability to manipulate the atmosphere to produce elemental abilities. It is something that demons excrete out of their pores in times of stress or danger.

New name, new logo:

logos

We decided to change the name of our game to something less generic. Since Demon’s Revenge is the name of a previously released flash game, we need to make something a bit more diverse. So we went with adding “Celestial Tear” to the title which is the name of the universe in which Demon’s Revenge takes place. We love the idea for a shared universe within our games, and we think having it in the title makes our project more diverse. We are between these three color schemes at the moment. We love how it came out, but can’t choose.

That’s it for now, but there’s more to come!

2012 Kickstarter Update #14. This is when it was just Tyrell, me and Ricky.

Michael stepped down as composer.

We were preparing for our 2014 Kickstarter in this update.

Jagen Suiko Style

We have a pretty cool update for you guys today. We want to show you guys a very important city which is located in a sandy region of Hasphal called Annox. We have varied types of sidequests in Demon’s Revenge and one of the more complex ones is in Annox which is diplomacy. It’s nothing too crazy but it will have minor effects on how the different towns operate. It could change prices of items or alter the way some people in the towns react to you. Since we have a more complex NPC system, that could effect some individuals more than others.

(We took this video down due to copyright claim on the music. Even thought we have our own music for it now, the video itself is pretty old anyway and does not represent what it is now.)

If you ever heard our theme song from the original demo you will notice our melody. Its something that we hold dear as its been around since the beginning and in a lot of ways inspires us. It has been upgraded significantly by Quigon. He did a fantastic job and we love it. I think it represents every bit of our game with mystery and suspense as well as adventure and discovery. This video not only showcases the song, but also everyone who is making Demon’s Revenge come to life.

Another thing I wanted to talk about is archetypes and races in Demon’s Revenge. This is something I touched on before but I want to elaborate on. As you play, you will notice that most characters have distinct stats based on both their skills and race. The one character who may seem to have varied abilities is Sen, but every one else falls into these categories:

Jehts: Jehts are the most varied of all the races. They live off the land and being on Hasphal for so long they adapted to their individual environments. They are brash and rely on their high speed and frontal blitz strategies since the ridders have hunted them for years. They have been known to fight hard or die fast. So in essence jehts all have varied abilities and come in a variety of different sizes and shapes, depending on where they are from on Hasphal. Humans:

Then we have the humans. They may be the more crafty and adaptable beings. Having to adapt to the varied harsh world of Hasphal. They are able to take any situation and use it to their advantage. Being the physically weakest of the races they have a high dexterity and are able to adapt to more classes.

There are more races in Demon’s Revenge but the conflict between the humans and jehts is the most prevalent. As you probably could imagine, humans function as an industrial race but some cultures may be more advanced than others. Jehts on the other hand do not get such luxuries as humans have proclaimed them unfit for society, and in some rare cases, slaves. Most humans find jehts to be grotesque. They banish, hunt, and kill them. There are places where they try to live together but the prejudice and ignorance still lingers. It’s only a matter of time before the jehts do something. Whether it will be diplomatic or aggressive, only time will tell. Jehts claim the world belongs to them and humans proclaim it thier birth right. Who will have the last word?
races

This chart shows (from left to right):Humans, Jehts, Kelt, and Gaddok. The chart is missing: Remergio, Druff, and Turrenz. Of course there will also be other little critters throughout the game. We have a new concept based on doing the different areas and coming up with more complex and varied mission. There will be elemental creatures around Hasphal. These beings will look like the environment and element that they represent. Which makes these types of quests unique is that it will be somewhat of a mystery on how to get them to communicate. They will only speak to you if you can determine what the underlying task is. We feel it will increase the variety of quest types and also reward the player for exploration.

Tree

Our campaign is going to come soon but more than likely early next year. We want to have a solid presentation and we feel the more time we put into it. The better our chances of success. We have a lot of love in creation and making games is our passion. There is not a day that goes by that we are not involved with it. We hope to see you for our next update. And thank you for your support.

Our First Kickstarter Pt. 5

We’ll be going over all of our kickstarter updates.

2012 Kickstarter Update #5. This is when it was just Tyrell, me and my brother, Michael.

At this point we were getting a lot of complaints on the art and we knew we had to do something about it. Tyrell improved a lot, but it still was not enough.

Races, Classes and Progress

We would like to say thanks again for all the support. Now we have some more art to show and talk about the different races and classes that are involved in our story.

We have some unique races and classes in the game. All have their own traits and abilities.

Although you will not get to choose these classes for your characters, it gives you a good idea of the tactics and abilities of the ones in your party and the ones you fight against.

Kelts are going to be very rare in Demon’s Revenge. They are the ancestors of the humans and are not used to the more medieval culture of the Hasphalians. Kelts are physically stronger and faster than the Humans but have about the same amount of agility. Kelts have a higher technological culture, so relying on their equipment puts them at a lower dexterity than Humans. The classes of the Kelts would be warriors, gunners, machisma*.

Then we have the Humans. They are in the middle of the pact. They may be the more crafty and adaptable beings. Having to adapt (descending from Kelts) to the colder and harsher world of Hasphal. They are able to take any situation and use it to their advantage. Being the physically weakest of the races they have a high dexterity and are able to adapt to more classes. Warriors, Mages, Gunners, Machisma*, Rogues, and Paladin.

Jehts are the most varied of all the races. They could be Warriors and Mages.

Machisma* are a unique class in Demon’s Revenge they use technology and machines to buff, and heal allies in battle they also possess power machines that do quite a bit of damage. Their biggest con would be the time it takes them to charge their machines.

And also we would like to show you guys this picture of Sinara. She is a character we introduced in an earlier update. Again thanks and let us know what you think.
Sinara Trex
